Archives Day in Russia is celebrated on March 10. This holiday is dedicated to the date of signing the "General Regulations" by Peter I in 1720, which laid the foundation for the system of state archival affairs in the country. Since then, archives have become the most important part of public administration and a source of historical memory.

History of the holiday
Peter I introduced mandatory maintenance and preservation of documentation for all government agencies, realizing that documents are evidence of significant events and ensure the continuity of historical memory. Since then, archival work has come a long way, and in modern Russia it has acquired the status of a separate direction in public administration.

Archives Day is an opportunity to celebrate the work of people who preserve and document history, as well as to remind us of the importance of archival work in maintaining national memory.
